Welcome to the Davis SIAM Student Research Conference Homepage!

May 8-9, 2009

UC Davis

The Davis SIAM Student Research Conference (DSSRC) is on May 8-9, 2009 in the Mathematical Sciences Building at UC Davis. The purpose of the DSSRC is to bring together graduate and undergraduate students in applied mathematics and related fields, to let them learn about new topics, and get to know other graduate students in their field. This year's schedule will consist of talks and posters given by students, two keynote presentations and a panel discussion of issues in mathematical biology research. Lunch and refreshments will be served. There is no cost to attend this event.

All participants are invited to give a 15-20 minute talk or present a poster. The subject must be original research and be accessible to an audience of graduate students of varying levels.
The deadline for abstract submission (April 1) has passed. Please use the link for registration.

Please print and post the conference poster here

The schedule for the conference is now available here.

One keynote speakers this year will be Dr. Jim Keener from the University of Utah and Dr. Lisa Fauci from Tulane University.

Dr. James P. Keener graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 1972 with his Ph. D. in applied mathematics. From there, he was an assistant professor in the department of mathematics at the University of Arizona, Tuscon for 6 years. After that, he became a professor in the department of mathematics at the Univerisity of Utah, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor of mathematics. Dr. Keener has published over 100 articles over his career dealing with numerous topics in applied mathematics and mathematical biology such as bifurcation theory, dynamics of excitable media, cardiac dynamics, and the ranking of football teams. He also wrote the book "Mathematical Physiology" which was selected as the Best New Title in Mathematics for 1988 by the Association of American Publishers, Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division.

Dr. Lisa Fauci graduated from New York University in 1986 with her Ph. D. in mathematics under the advisement of Charles Peskin. From there she became a professor at Tulane University where she has been for 23 years. From 1992-1994 she was an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow, and in 1999 was awarded the Tulane University, liberal Arts and Sciences Faculty Research Award. Dr. Fauci has published articles on a variety of topics ranging from simulations of swimming organisms to biofilms and was editor for the Springer book Computational Modeling in Biological Fluid Dynamics.

Registration and Abstract Submission - The abstract deadline is April 1, 2009.
Abstracts from all areas of applied mathematics and related fields will be considered.
Abstract deadline is April 1, 2009.
